Fire and smoke in Seattle: the local record
Fire response in Seattle is the Seattle Fire Department [1]. Seattle Fire's 2025 Annual Report lists 33 fire stations in five battalions, staffed around the clock by four shifts, with 993 uniformed and 94 civilian personnel; 216 members are on duty each day. [2] In 2025 the department logged 108,763 total responses, of which 29,129 were fire-type responses; its Fire Investigation Unit investigated more than 280 incidents, concluding 100 were accidental, 125 intentionally set, 62 undetermined and one natural. The Seattle Fire Investigation Unit has seven trained and certified fire investigators who determine the cause and origin of fires, collect evidence at the scene, and hand findings to the Seattle Police Department for any criminal investigation.
